The foundation stone of the old Parliament House was laid on 12 February 1921. It was designed by British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker and completed in 1927.The new parliament building of India is built in the shape of a triangle.The building is spread over an area of 64,500 square meters and has four floors.There are three main gates in the New Parliament Building namely Gnan Dwar, Shakti Dwar and Karma Dwar. The building has a separate entrance for VIPs, MPs and visitors.Granite statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Bhimrao Ambedkar and Chanakya have also been installed in this building.The most striking feature of the new Parliament Building is its Constitution Hall, located in the center of the building. An Ashoka pillar has been installed on it, a copy of the constitution will be kept in this hall. Statues of nationally worshiped animals such as eagles, gajs, horses and crocodiles have been placed in the new parliament building.It will have three galleries that will take a journey from the historical to the modern era of India. Lotus, peacock and banyan tree are the three national symbols as the interior theme of the new parliament building. A Sengol has been installed near the Speaker’s chair in the new Parliament Building.Along with this, large pictures of MK Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhash Chandra Bose, and the great Prime Ministers of the country have also been placed. 888 members can sit comfortably in the Lok Sabha chamber of the Parliament House and 300 members in the Rajya Sabha chamber.A total of 1,280 members can sit in the Lok Sabha chamber in case of a joint sitting of both houses.The old Parliament House had a system of 550 members in the Lok Sabha and 240 in the Rajya Sabha. New Parliament Building The new building also houses a grand Constitution Hall, a lounge for Members of Parliament, a library, a dining hall, and a parking lot to showcase the history of India’s democracy.
